How to choose requirements:
The Scottish Government requires all domestic properties to meet the following minimum specifications for Fire and Smoke Detection by Feb 2022:
    • One smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used for general daytime living purposes. (Usually the living room).
    • One smoke alarm in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landings. (1 for a flat or single level bungalow; 2 for an up and downsatairs house).
    • One heat alarm installed in every kitchen.
    • One carbon monoxide detector installed in every room with a carbon-fuelled appliance or flue (eg: boiler, fire, cooker ).

Please note: in addition to the above specifications, there are specific rules and detector limitations that should also be considered. An engineer will conduct a site survey prior to work commencing and advise of any issues.
Fire and smoke detectors must be interlinked while CO detectors do not have to be.
Please refer to the government website for advice as follows:

Optional Extra's:
    • Control Unit: positioned at shoulder level, it allows the alarms to be tested or silenced without the need for ladders.
    • Internet Gateway: a device that connects to your broadband and sends push messages to your smartphone if a detector activates.
There are a number of other areas that are often selected for aditional protection as follows:
    • Master bedroom: for heavy sleepers or when an activation may go unnoticed during the night, fitting an extra detector will cause it to activate if any interlinked detector in the house activates.
    • A childs bedroom: both to capture issues as early as possible but also to provide extra warning as children can be very deep sleepers.
    • Utility rooms: fitting a detector can be useful when heat-generating appliances are used (like tumble dryers).
    • Garages: a detector can be used if flammable substances are stored (fuel, spirits etc).
